Ethan is the 9 year old son of Doug and Natalie, brother to Courtney and Wyatt. Ethan was born with a syndrome called Ectrodactyly Ectodermal Dysplasia Clefting Syndrome (please refer to nfed.org for more information). This syndrome has affected his hands, feet, teeth, mouth, skin, hair and eyes. Ethan has overcome so much already with 29 surgeries and it has never slowed him down; he kept an amazing attitude through it all.
Sadly, we did receive terrible news that will slow him down if we don't help him. Ethan was diagnosed with blindness in his right eye and over 55% of his left eye is being invaded by the white sclara cells that are growing over his pupil. We were referred by Mayo Clinic to see a specialist in Baltimore to cauterize the vessels in his eyes causing this cell overgrowth, and to be fitted with custom lenses that cover the whole globe of the eye. Without these interventions, Ethan will become totally blind. These lenses are not covered by insurance and cost $15,000 dollars.

We are struggling with the monthly maintenance medication drops that are not covered by insurance, and traveling to Baltimore. The Avastin eye drops cost $700 a month with an addition $100 shipping since it's a refrigerated medication and insurance will not cover it because it's a cancer medication, and Ethan does not have cancer. This drug stops cell growth in his eyes, which is what caused his vision loss. We are currently in Baltimore with news Ethan's vision has improved but eye ulcers are developing. We are adjusting medications and I know our next appointment is August 16 to check his eye status.
If anyone has points they could use to book our flight or hotel, we would welcome the help! Please send an email to John Lynch of the Lunch With Lynch Foundation. The Lunch With Lynch Foundation is an IRS 501©3 non profit 46-1256221
